Fears and Phobias

What are Fears or Phobias?

A phobia is an irrational response to a fear of something, and it stems from our subconscious mind. Although we are all born with two fears, the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises, some fears can be inherited and learned from our friends and family.

There are several types of phobias:

Z

Simple Phobias
These are single stimulus fears such as heights and confined places etc.

Z

Complex Phobias
These fears have a number of stimuli; Fear of boats, losing control and the fear of drowning.

Z

Social Phobias
A fear of being in public: A fear of blushing or losing control.

Z

Panic Attacks
These are severe attacks of acute anxiety reactions; there will be an invasion of anxious thoughts and physical symptoms that accompany panic attacks.

Z

Agoraphobia
The fear of the “Open Marketplace”; a fear of open spaces to the point where some won’t even leave their home.

Fears and Phobias

How are phobias developed?

Phobias are developed after a traumatic event (Initial Sensitising Event) or after a series of traumatic events. You may not fully remember what this event was, and it may have occurred at a young age. Whatever happened may well have been quite harmless, but the memories and associations that accompany it have been locked away in your subconscious mind, and now you have a phobic response to the stimuli. Hypnotherapy can help you to deal with this problem, and overcome your phobia.

How can I overcome my phobia?

I use the most up to date techniques combining Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, these techniques can help you to overcome the reasons behind your fear or phobia and desensitize the event so it no longer causes a phobic response. This can help you to respond to the situation in a calm and controlled way, thus feeling much happier and in control of your life.
